A : Hi, Andi what are you doing? You look very happy.
B : Hi, I am checking my e-mail and have found a letter from my sister from Los Angeles.
A : Oh really, is it possible to send a letter from a computer ?
B : Sorry, I connect the computer to the internet. So I can send e-mail to my sister. There is a good chance to send and receive a message all around the world faster.
The bold sentence above are about expressing possibility.
- Something is possible or has a possibility if something can be done or something can happen.
- Something is impossible or has impossibility if it can't be done or happen.
The other expression to express possibility and impossibility is a good chance and little chance . Observe the examples :
1. Do you think I have a good chance of passing the examination ?
it means : Is it possible for me to pass the examination?
2. I think I have a little chance of finding a job.
It means : It's impossible to find a job.
3. There is a good chance that I'll be the winner of the speech contest.
It means : There is possibility that I'll be the winner of the speech contest.
4. Is there little chance that you lend me some money until tomorrow?
It means : There is impossibility that you lend me some money until tomorrow.
The pattern :
There is + a good chance/little chance + of + V-ing + There is + a good chance/little chance + that -clause
