English Grammar : Affixes

Learn Grammar | English Grammar : Affixes | The meaning here is that affixes affixes, whether it be a prefix or suffix. Unlike the Indonesian, in English only have the prefix and suffix, there are no inserts.
Affix function is to form a derivative. Known as an invented word means a word formed from the base which then form a new word. The new word can change its type from the type of the original words, however some are not changed kind of the original word.

example :
danger - endanger (verb) - prefix en-
ox (noun) - oxen (noun) - suffix -en


Next let's examine the following matters relating to the above derivatives, specifically to affix the changing types of words.

1. Preffix + Base (adj) : Derivative (verb)
en- + danger : endanger
      + large : enlarge
      + rich : enrich

2. Base (verb) + suffix : Derivation (noun)
enjoy + -ment : enjoyment
store +-age : storage
employ + -ee : employee
play + -er : player
instruct + -or : instructor
act + -ess : actress
type + -ist : typist

3. Base (adj) + suffix : Derivative (adj)
clever +-ness :cleverness
clear + -ity : clearity
popular + -ity : popularity
present + -nce : presence
important + -nce : importance
warm + -ist : warmth

4. Prefix + Base (adj) + suffix : Derivation (noun)
im- + popular + -ity : impopularity
dis- + able + -ity : disability
im- + polite + -ly : impolitely
over - + generalize + -ion : overgeneralization
mis- + manage + -ment : management
un- + predict + -able : unpredictable
