The Function of Preposition

Education English | The Function of Preposition | Frank (1972: 171) states that the preposition has the function of connecting a noun or a pronoun to another word, usually a noun, verb or adjective. Meanwhile, Stebbins (2008: 183) states that the preposition serves as a link word to connect a noun or its equivalent with some other word in the sentence. In addition, prepositions indicate the relation between the substantive and the word to which the preposition links it.
For examples: - The girl with the red hair is beautiful.
(with connects hair with the noun girl)
- They arrived in the morning.
(in connects morning with the verb arrived)
- She is fond of roses.
