Speech : Mamasa as a Tourist Destination in West Sulawesi

Education English | Speech : Mamasa as a Tourist Destination in West Sulawesi | Assalamu’alaikum Wr. Wb. Firstly, let us praise to the Almighty God for His Blessing that enables us to come here to join this English speech contest regarding with the sixth anniversary celebration of Mamasa regency. I would also like to say many thanks to the MC who has given me chance to deliver my English speech.
Honorable Juries, Ladies and gentlemen, Sisters and Brothers…
On this occasion I would like to talk about Mamasa as a tourist destination in West Sulawesi.
As we all know, West Sulawesi has 5 regencies, they are: Polewali Mandar, Majene, Mamuju, North
Mamuju and Mamasa. We are proud that of all the regencies belong to West Sulawesi,
Mamasa is considered as the most potential tourist destination for its beautiful nature and interesting culture supported with friendly society. Mamasa is well-known for its unique and remarkable custom, such as: its architectures, dances, languages and funeral ceremonies. At a glance, the custom in Mamasa seems to relate with Tana Toraja which is located in eastern part of Mount Quarles. This mount becomes the border area between Mamasa and Tana Toraja. Although there are similarities between Mamasa and Tana Toraja’s customs, they are not exactly same to each other.
Honorable Juries, Ladies and gentlemen, Sisters and Brothers…
Mamasa regency located in the eastern part of West Sulawesi borders on Tana Toraja in South Sulawesi which is also a well-known destination for domestic and international tourists. With the availability of facilities and infrastructures in Mamasa Regency, there is a high possibility for tourists who occasionally visit Tana Toraja will also be interested to drop in Mamasa, even they will enjoy its tourism objects. Tourism objects in Mamasa are basically not different with Tana Toraja. If we compare both of them, we will find that Mamasa seems to have more interesting objects, like amazing waterfalls and exotic rivers for rafting. Even if we see our beloved regency in the morning, we will find that we have a remarkable small town surrounded by mountains with thick fog. It’s a very beautiful and mystical view.

Honorable Juries, Ladies and gentlemen, Sisters and Brothers…
Though the distance is about 100 km from Polewali Mandar, it takes many hours to reach Mamasa. This is due to the inadequate transportation facilities. The developed tourism in Tana Toraja almost has no significant effect on tourism in Mamasa. The road, as the main infrastructure that connects Mamasa to Tana Toraja, should be constructed soon. Because of this poor infrastructure, it is not surprising that Mamasa regency is not publicly recognized by tourists. Looking at the condition like this, are we going to keep in silence?

Mamasa Regency that we love so much… must become a tourist destination. We must wake up and develop all the sectors regarding with tourism. Basically, one of the challenges to make Mamasa as an icon of tourism in West Sulawesi is the poor infrastructure, especially the condition of roads in Mamasa Regency. It makes tourists not interested to visit here. Without good infrastructure, it is impossible for us to promote Mamasa as a tourist destination.

Honorable Juries, Ladies and gentlemen, Sisters and Brothers…
Nothing can stop us to make some significant changes and develop Mamasa to be a tourist destination city of West Sulawesi. We all know that our Mamasa Regency, which is also known as “Bumi Kondo sapata”, has six potential tourist objects, namely:
  • Tombs of Tedong-Tedong Barat
  •  Leawan Sumarorong water falls
  • Buntu Mussa Balla Peu Hills
  •  Kolle warm water Bath
  • Makuang Traditional Kampongs
  • Saratu Traditional Kampongs
In addition, besides the six tourist objects above, there are also some other attractive tourist objects, such as agricultural tourism of passion fruit plantation in Mamasa Sub-District, Mebaba’ and Mangngaro Tradition, and rivers for rafting as I have mentioned earlier.

Honorable Juries, Ladies and gentlemen, Sisters and Brothers…
At the end of my speech, I encourage all of us, Let us support the launching of Mamasa as a tourist destination in West Sulawesi by supporting the improvement of facilities and infrastructures for local and foreign tourists. For example, we should improve the infrastructure of road, so that tourists will not feel difficult to reach the destination resorts. If Mamasa Regency becomes a tourist destination, it will be an income sector for Mamasa Government, even it will effect positively for the improvement of micro-enterprises in Mamasa society. It is simply clear that… everything in Mamasa is: from Mamasa, by Mamasa and for Mamasa…

The last, before I close my speech, I would like to say: “Happy birthday, Mamasa… Congratulation on your 6th anniversary…!“ Ladies and Gentlemen, let us support and participate to make Mamasa Regency become a better regency by launching it as a tourist destination in West Sulawesi.

Honorable Juries, Ladies and gentlemen, Sisters and Brothers…

That’s all my speech. Hopefully it will be useful for us. I am so sorry for any mistakes in my speech… And, thank you very much for your attention.
Wassalamu'alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh
