Grammar : Preference

Like…Better than and prefer …..To

Like…Better than may also be used with respect to actions but it must be followed by the infinitive with to or the –ing form of a verb ; I like to play cards better than to listen to the radio.
Prefer …..To is also used to express preference, but it is less common and more formal than other expressions. It should not be used with infinitive : I prefer going by bus to (going) by train.
S + like + noung/gerund + better than + noun/gerund

Ex ; I like rice better than dancing ; She likes singing better than dancing

S + prefer + noun/gerund + to + noun/gerund

Ex : I prefer rice to bread ; She prefers singing to dancing
