Parentheses ( ( ) )

Education English | Parentheses ( ( ) ) |  According to Langan (2008: 577), Parentheses are used to set off extra or incidental information from the rest of a sentence:
• In 1913, the tax on an annual income of four thousand dollars (a comfortable wage at that time) was one penny.
Parentheses can be used to enclose commentary, explanation, opinion and others that reffered to main topic. (surayin, 1999: 514)
Examples: She invited two girls (they are cousins, you know) to the party.
If it rains (and we certainly hope I doesn’t), the picnic will be postponed
