Subject And Verb

At this point it is advisable to take up the subject verb relationship. Let us begin with this simple sentence :
“The teacher holds class everyday” If we change word “teacher “ to the plural noun form “teachers”, we must change the verbal to “hold”. We describe this noun-verb relationship by saying that the noun “is tied” or “agrees with” the verb. And the noun in the sentence that is tied to the verb is the subject of the verb . thus the tie or agreements show that the teacher is the subject. This “tie” test is the most generally useful way to identify the subject in various kind of sentence, regardless of the position of the subject.

Also you can usually locate the subject by applying this simple rule of thumb : ask who? Or what ? of the verb. Who holds? The teacher holds. Hence teacher is the subject.
