Editors of newspaper and magazines often provide their readers with unimportant facts and statistic. Last year, a well known magazine sent journalist to write an articles on the president’s palace in a new African republic. When article arrived, the editor need the first sentence and then refused to publish it.
The article began : “there are hundredrs steps that lead to the high wall. The high wall surrounds the president’s palace “. The editor at once sent the journalist a telegram and instructed him to find out the exact number of steps and the height of the wall. The journalist immediately tried to do what the editor asked him. Since the journalist did not give the information and sent him two urgents telegrams, but he did not rerceive any replies from the journalist.
At last the editor sent final telegram to tell the journalist that if he still did not give information about the steps, he would be fired. But there was still no replay from the journalist. Out of patience, the editor finally published the article on the magazine.
A week later, the editor receiced a telegram from the journalist to say that he was in prison because the army placed him under arrest when he was counting, the 1084 steps leading to the 15 foot wall that surrounded the president’s palace.
