The sentences above use ‘will’ and ‘be going to’
Both ‘will’ and ‘be going to’ are used to express future time.
Patterns :
S + Will +V-base
S+Be going to + V-base
The functions or ‘will’ and ‘be going to’ :
1. You can use ‘will’ or ‘be going to’ to express a prediction.
Examples :
· I think Mr. Smith is not going to/will not come to the meeting. He is disappointed with the director’s decision.
· Watch out! The tree is going to /will fall.
2. You can use only ‘be going to’ to express a prior plan.
Example :
Nani : Did you know that Mr. Ronald is sick?
Ira : Yes, susi and I are going to visit him tonight
3. You can use only “ will’ to express willingness
Example :
Elda : Oh, there are many dirty plates to wash
Shint: Don’t worry. I’ll wash them
