Definition of Preposition

Education English | Definition of Preposition | Preposition is classified as a part of speech in grammar. Prepositions are just little word that never changes in form; they are pronounced softly, in unstressed syllables; they are not even given capital letters in a book title but they have very important functions. Preposition is word or group of word (e.g. in, from, to, out of, on behalf of, etc.) often placed before a noun or pronoun to
indicate place, direction, source, method, etc. (Hornby: 1980). Furthermore Stroman (2008:396) states that prepositions are used to describe relationship between other words in a sentence. Prepositions are always followed by nouns or pronouns. The noun or pronoun following the preposition called object.
