He was the first Vice President of the Rebuplic Indonesia who was not only famous, but also has big work in improving the standard of living of the people through cooperatives.He was then named the Father of Cooperatives Indonesia.
How could he becoe so briliant ? he was a well educated man. He attained his degree in economics in the Netherlands. He also studied constitusional laws in the Univeristy of Rooterdam.
Mohammad Hatta was born in Bukit tinggi on 12 August 1902. His elementary school and secondary education he got in Bukit Tinggi and Padang, West Sumatra and in Jakarta.He left his country to continue his studies in the Netherlands in 1921. During his study, he was active in poiltical movements. He was with Indonesian youth League in Rotterdam. He was chairman there of for the period of 1926-1930.
For his political activities he was imprisoned by the Dutch government for five months until he was freed from any accusation in 1928 and returned to Indonesia. He continues his activities with ther Indonesian freedom fighter, he was imrpisoned again in Jakarta. Form there he was banished to Boven Digul, Papoea. After sometime he was moved to Sukabumi, west java.
With Bung Karno and other Indonesian patirots he struggled for independence. In 1945 he was elected member of the Commision for the Preparation of Indonesia Indepence . In the commision he proposed the national economic system. His idea could convince other members and the 1945 Consitution of the Republic Indonesia perpetuates them in article 33.
His briliance continued and the Commision, Panitia Persiapan Kemerdekaan Indonesia elected him vice president on 18 August 1945 one day after the declaration of independence. The duo Soekarno - Hatta were idolized by the Indonesian people. People loved to call him Bung Hatta.
His hard work and honesty led him to succes as an Indonesian thinker. He wrote some books on cooperative and one book on Greek philoshopy.
He deceased on 14 March 1980 and his body was buried in the public cemetery Tanah Kusir. This indicate how close his heart was to the people. He did not want to separated from the common people, even after his death
