Education English | Definition of Abstract | Sastiono (2008:1) states that abstract is a complete summarizes and explains all of content of article. According to Wilkinson (2008:1) an abstract is a stand-alone statement that briefly conveys the essential information of a paper, article, document or book; presents the objective, methods, results, and conclusions of a research project; has a brief, non-repetitive style. Furthermore, Nugroho (2009:1) says that abstract is a summary of a paper which contains all the necessary information for the reader to infer what the purpose of the research that done, how the method/implementation of the research that done, what the results that is obtained and what the significance/value of benefits as well as the conclusions of these studies. Kilborn (1993:1) states that an abstract is a condensed version of a longer piece of writing that highlights the major points covered, concisely describes the content and scope of the writing, and reviews the writing's contents in abbreviated form. From the definitions of an abstract above, it can be concluded that an abstract is a concise for of the document consisting of the important parts of a text and describe the content and scope of writing. It should stand on its own and be a self contained document.
