Descriptive Text

One of the tallest and most interesting animals in the zoo us the giraffe. This is the giraffe we saw at the zoo. It is male and it is about six meters tall.
The giraffe has big brown eyes which are protected by very thick leashes. The lashes are an important source of protection. They can also cover the giraffe's nostrils in order to protect its nose. It has brown spots on the skin and this coloring helps protect the giraffe.  The giraffe also has two short horns on its head.
Like the camel, the giraffe can go for a long time without drinking water. One source of water is the leaves which the giraffe eats from trees. Since it is so tall, the giraffe can reach the tender leaves at the top of the tree.
The giraffe lives in small herds and often feed with other animals. A baby giraffe is two meters tall at birth. It can stand up by itself within a few minutes after birth and can run well in about two days.
The giraffe has two methods of self protection. If something frightens an adult giraffe, it can gallop away at about fifty kilometers per hour or stay to fight with its strong legs.

Narrative Text : Queen of Arabia and Three Sheiks

Education English | Narrative Text : Queen of Arabia and Three Sheiks | Maura, who like to be thought of as the most beautiful and powerful queen of Arabia, had many suitors. One by one she discarded them, until her list was reduced to just three sheiks. The three sheiks were all equally young and handsome. They were also rich and strong. It was very hard to decide who would be the best of them.
One evening, Maura disguised herself and went to the camp of the three sheiks. As they were about to have dinner, Maura asked them for something to eat. The first gave her some left over food. The second Sheik gave her some unappetizing camel’s tail. The third sheik, who was called Hakim, offered her some of the most tender and tasty meat. After dinner, the disguised queen left the sheik’s camp.
The following day, the queen invited the three sheiks to dinner at her palace. She ordered her servant to give each one exactly what they had given her the evening before. Hakim, who received a plate of delicious meat, refused to eat it if the other two sheiks could not share it with him.
This Sheik Hakim’s act finally convinced Queen Maura that he was the man for her. “Without question, Hakim is the most generous of you” she announced her choice to the sheiks. “So it is Hakim I will marry”.

Descirptive Text : Family Potrait

My mother who is seventy years old, recently sent me a photograph of herself that I had never seen before. While cleaning out the attic of her Florida home, she came across a studio potrait she had had taken about a year before she married my father. This picture of my mohter as a twenty year old girl has fascinated me from the moment I began to study it closely. The blouse is made of heavy eggshell colored satin and reflects the light in its folds and hollows. The skirt which covers my mother's calves is straight and made of light wool of flannel. On the third finger of her left hand is ring with a large square cut stone. On her left wrist is a matching bracelet. My mother is wearing a blouse and skirt that, although the photo was taken fifty years ago, could easily be worn today. My mother is wearing silver drops earrings. My mother can not find this bracelet now, despite the fact that we spent hours searching through the attic for it. The smocking looks hand done. They are about two inches long and roughly shield shaped. It has a turned down cowl collar and smocking on the shoulders and below the collar. I have also carefully studied the clothing and jewelry in photograph. The small, straight nose is the same model I was born with. The most haunting faetures in the photo, however are my mohter's eyes. The young woman in the picture has a face that resembles my own in in many ways. I know that if she had smiled, she would have shown the same wide grin and down curving smile lines that appear in my own snapshots. Her brows are plucked into thin lines, which are like two pencil strokes added to highlight those fine, luminous eyes. Her face is a bit more oval than mine, but the softly waving bown hair around it is identical. My mothers mouth is closed, yet there is just the slighest hint of a smile on her full lips. They are exact duplicates of my own large, dark brown ones.
Just before giving the picture to my father, she scrawled on the lover hand corner "Sincerely Beatrice". The ring she wore was a present from another young man she was dating at the time. She spent almost two weeks salary on the skirt and blouse which she bought at a  fancy department store downtown. Mom spent another clunck of her salary to pay the potrait photographer for the hand tinted print in old fashioned tones of brown and tan. She borrowed the earrings and bracelet from her older sister my aunt dorothy. Mom who was earning twenty five dollars a week as a file clerk, decided to give her boyfriend a picture of herself. The story behind the pictures is as interesting to me as the young woman it captures.

Descriptive Text : A Unique Place to Live

I really love the house when I grew up. It was located on very pleasent, friendly, sreet that was mostly residential but had an elementary school on one corner and drugstore on the other. Our house was in the middle of the street, on the opposites side from the elementary school and the drugstore. I am really glad that I was able to grow up in a nice homw in 8 safe neighbourhood not everyone is so lucky.
Our house was made of birck and had two stories and an attic. On he first floor was a large living room, a dining room,  and my brother's bedroom, a kicthen,, a family room and small bathroom. The living room and dining room had off white walls and a beige carpet that we tried to keep clean, but it was always getting dirty, my mother says she'll never get a beige carpet again. The living room had a large picture window which gave us a pleasant view of the street. The kithcen was modern and cheerful. I guees my favorite room was always the family room its decor was unique, and I always thought it was a great place for watching TV or talking to friends.
Upstairs was my bedroom, my parents bedroom, my other brother's bedroom and another bathroom. Unlike the bathroom downstairs, this one had a tub and shower. My parents bedroom was the largest room and blue walls and big shag rug, my brother's room was nice enough to start out with, but it always a mess my  parents constantly had to tell him to clean up his junk. Of course my favorite room upstairs was my own bedroom. It  had yellow several throw rugs and curtains made of a really interesting printed material. I had decorated the room myself and had picked out a very pretty bedspread and hung several good prints and photographs on the walls. I always tried to keep my room nest, even my desk and the bookshelves where I displayed a lot of keepsakes and souvenirs I had stimulated for years. I'll admit that room got messy from time to time. It was never as bad as my brother's room.
We moved awat from that house shortly before I started college my father got a jod in another state but I will never forget it. The places where we spend our childhoods are always special. I will always be grateful that I was priviliged togrow up in such a good environment.

Descriptive Text : Easter Island

Education English | Descriptive Text : Easter Island | Easter Island is in the South Pacific, 3,700 kilometres from the coast of Chile. On the island, there are 600 large statues. We don't know who built them but they were probably constructed between 1150 and 1500. We don't really know why they are there. The

Norwegian explorer, Thor Heyerdahl, believed that they were built by people from South America. To prove this, he made a simple raft and sailed there, all the way from Peru. Archaeologists think that the statues represent dead tribal leaders. We don't know why the statues left alone on the island. Perhaps they were killed by disease or war. Perhaps the builders used all the natural resources on the island. There are many unanswered questions about Easter Island.
