Grammar : Causative Verb

Education English | Grammar : Causative Verb | Causative verb is used to indicate an intent or willingness, which led to the first causes the second person to do or act for the people first. It can be said that the second person to do what people want first.
Type of causative verbs can be grouped as follows:
a. Causative have : send
b. Causative make : send
c. Causative let  : allow, permit, let
d. Causative help : help
e. Causative get : help
 
A. Causative Have
Causative is used in two forms, namely active and passive. Have a significant causative active: 
 
Subject + have/ has + Object (complement) + verb 1 (without to)
 
example :
The teacher has Anni do her homework.
Yesterday, Dian had his sister write a letter.
They have their students bring the books.

Have a significant causative passive:



Subject + have/has + object (complement) + verb 3 
example :
Niken wanted to have her room cleaned. 
This means that he get someone else to clean up his room.

Tuti has her brother's book returned.
Father had his car washed.


B. Causative Get
Likewise causative get, can be used in two forms that are active and passive, however after the verb have is the basic verb (without use to), whereas after the verb is a verb to get to.

Significant causative get active :
Subject + get + object (complement) + to + verb
example :
He gets his sister to study diligently ( He asked his sister to study diligently )
Yesterday, father got me to wash the car. ( Father ordered me to wash the car)

Significant causative get passive :
Subject + get + object (complement) + verb-3
example :
Father got his car washed. (Father ordered someone to wash his car)
Mr. Fuad got his wall painted ( Mr. Fuad asked someone to paint his wall)
Mother got the letters typed ( Mother asked someone to type the letters)

C. Causative Make
The structure is the same make-causative use with causative have, but for the make causative can only be used in active form only. The verb that follows the make is the basic verb (verb) 1).


Subject + make + Object (complement) + Verb 1
example :
His smile makes her cry
The teacher made the students do all the tests
The man made his wife take the bag.


D. Causative Let and Help
Let the word and help actually not causative, but often included in the list of causative. Similarly, the causative have and the make, the verb that follows let and help is the first verb (verb 1).
example :
She let me read the book
Yesterday, she helped me look for the key
The teacher let the students watch the game.
